On Sunday afternoon, Mattie Windsor and I set out for the Northern Triad Farm Tour.

Our goal was to visit four out of the five open farms (we had previously visited to Buffalo Creek Farm & Creamery in Germanton) in four hours!

Our first stop was Yellow Wolf Farm in Walkertown.  After a few wrong turns, I finally managed to navigate us there.

There was a menagerie of animals!

and did I mention the baby pigs?  (They were quite possibly one of the cutest things I have ever seen!)

Next we were off to Plum Granny Farm in King.

We started off with a tour and peeked inside an old tobacco farm now used for garlic.  (They harvest over 20,000 bulbs of garlic  a year.)

We found our way to the “Pick your own” blackberry and black raspberry patch.

We picked over two pounds of berries to bring home and devoured at least another pound while we were at it.

Mattie Windsor enjoyed a refreshing snow cone with fresh raspberry syrup

while we went on a hay ride around the farm.

We even got to see a bee hive.

The next stop on our journey was Truffles NC at Keep Your Fork Farm also in King.

IMG_4910

There we got to learn about truffles and meet Daisy the “truffle dog”.

IMG_4918

We even got to see and smell the truffles up close. Ooh la la!

IMG_4920

We purchased small jars of truffle honey, truffle salt, and truffle butter before heading to Minglewood Farm and Nature Preserve in Westfield.

IMG_4929

There we discovered a lush farm with endless rows of flowers and vegetables.

We saw unusual floral varieties

and enjoyed the natural perfume.

IMG_4950

It was truly a beautiful place.

IMG_4937

I simply had to purchase a few flowers before returning home

and was able to make some lovely arrangements for us to enjoy!

IMG_4963

Exactly how many berries can one family eat?
